BitRocket came out with a BitTorrent client for the Mac. I am currently an Azareus user but never have enjoyed the high footprint it takes up. I downloaed BitRocket and gave it a swirl. The program is lean, fast and has the features I use. It even includes a built in RSS reader for torrent RSS. So far I am impressed.
More after the jump...
The install was simple and easy. I downloaded the .dmg file and dropped it in my applications directory. I then proceeded to legaltorrents.com and downloaded a file (incase the RIAA is reading my blog!). When I downloaded the file Azareus still was teh default app. I didn't see a preference to make BitRocket the default for .torrents so I guess I will have to manually change this.
I took the .torrent file and dropped it into BitRocket and we had lift off! The client kicked in and starting downloading the file. I like that it has many of the features that other clients using a lot less resources.
Another cool feature is it displays the torrents progress in the dock on the BitRocket Icon.
I then went an addeded an RSS feed to torrentz.com. That went smooth and had no issues. I am big RSS fan and plan to use this feature a bit.
Overall, I am pretty impressed with my first impressions of BitRocket. It has most of the features that I want. RSS support, Progress bars, simple and powerful.
